Do the mandatory ESC HumAid training and apply for a humanitarian project in Vietnam, Ecuador or India

Kick-off meeting is over and here is important information for all those who would like to go on humanitarian volunteering in Vietnam, Ecuador and India.

HumAid's LO-CA project focuses on building local capacity through education and local action. It focused on vulnerable communities in Ecuador, India and Vietnam, where we have sent volunteers in the past. Volunteers will assist in communities so as to support the sustainable development of these communities and the development of local youth.

Partners from ADICE Association(FR), VASE ICYE Ecuador(EC), OSCSWA India(IN) and CSDS(VN) were present at this transcontinental meeting in Čadca 28.1 - 4.2 2024.

We will be sending a total of 12 volunteers over the course of 3 years: 8 will be sent by KERIC and 4 by our French partner ADICE. There will be two volunteers at a time for 12 months.

The volunteers will travel to the project in 2 terms and will overlap for a short period:

Start: August 2024 with a deadline of May 1, 2024
Start: June 2025 with deadline 1 March 2025

All 3 projects focus on education and volunteers will have regular activities with children and youth from local communities: indigenous communities in Otavalo, Ecuador, marginalized communities from rural areas like Hoa Binh in Vietnam and a tribal community in Odisha, India - women empowerment.On the project, volunteers will have 3 support persons:

Coordinator - a person from the organization responsible for the running of the project
Mentor - a local young person who will assist in the volunteer's self-development
Local intern - someone from the organisation who will also take part in the training programme and will guarantee the sustainability of the project

In addition to regular activities in the community, every two months volunteers will be involved in the creation and execution of the so called SLOCA activities (Small Local Action). The aim of these Small Local Actions is to 1. promote sustainable development of local communities, 2. help volunteers, interns and staff improve their project management skills

Themes: project management, inclusion and diversity, environment and climate, human rights, sustainable development of local communities

APPROACH: needs-based, respecting dignity and rights - how to help where needed

There will be a total of 30 to 60 SLOCAs. Each volunteer can conduct 5-10 SLOCAs based on needs during the project.
