KERIC is a non-governmental youth organisation running in Čadca since 2003. We work with children and young people aged 7–30, and with adults from our region, Kysuce. Our projects reach across education, environment, sports and the outdoors — and every summer we run camps for local kids.
What you'll actually do
Your week is a mix, not a routine. The core of the project is bringing English and an international spirit into local classrooms and courses:
- English for children (2–6 h/week): inspire kids aged 8–15 to speak, discover other cultures and have fun doing it. You motivate — you don't have to be a native speaker.
- Your own language & culture courses (2–6 h/week): lead relaxed, non-formal sessions in your native language, with cultural presentations and your own touch.
- Cooperation with local schools (6–8 h/week): support teachers across 2–3 schools in English, sports, art, IT, science and more; join field trips, tournaments and school life.
- Non-teaching activities (1–8 h/week): workshops, sports, creative and social activities, international events — and in summer, helping run weekly camps for kids and youth.
- Office & preparation: a bit of office work, leaflets and project admin, plus class prep with our methodology and support.
You'll also join regular KERIC team and mentor meetings to plan, reflect and keep the project running smoothly.
Where you'll live
Čadca sits in the north of Slovakia, near the Czech and Polish borders, at the heart of the Kysuce region — beautiful countryside with mountains, skiing, hiking and mountain-bike trails. Cold snowy winters, hot sunny summers, and everything you need within walking distance. Good train links reach bigger towns and both neighbouring countries.
You'll stay in the upper floors of KERIC, separate from the offices and classrooms, usually sharing a room with one other volunteer. The kitchen is fully equipped, there's wifi throughout, and shops are 2–5 minutes away. Living together with people from all over the world has its ups and downs — and it grows your tolerance faster than anything else.
What the ESC programme covers
As a European Solidarity Corps project, the programme covers your accommodation, a food/living allowance, pocket money, a contribution to your travel, insurance and language support. You also get the chance to take a language course of your own choice while you're here.
Who we welcome
Young people (EU residents, roughly 18–35) who are motivated, open-minded and keen to work with children and youth. Bring comfy, sporty, waterproof clothes for the outdoors, something typical from your country to share — and your passport and travel documents.
