KERIC volunteers
Wissal spent twelve months volunteering with us in Čadca. She taught English in local schools, ran youth activities, and discovered along the way that she loves teaching — something she had no idea about before she arrived. What is it really like to spend a year as an ESC volunteer in Slovakia? After 267 days at KERIC in Čadca, David from Romania packed his 30 kg of luggage and said goodbye. His farewell words tell you more about volunteering with us than any infopack ever could.
Every Wednesday, in KERIC, Language Café takes place. Psychology, philosophy, society topics… are discussed. One week ago, the question “as humans, do we have the right to kill animals ? ”, was settled. This question leaded to the topic about vegetarianism and veganism and what was it in contemporary societies.
Sabri came to KERIC from France after finishing his studies, looking for something real instead of boring lectures. In this interview he talks about how Slovakia chose him, his love for Slovak food and Terchová, the struggle with too many consonants – and why it's okay to feel lost after school.
Why Slovakia? What interested you in this country?
Honestly, I sent my first two applications to Greece and Portugal (I didn't mind the idea of being surrounded by the sea). I didn't get answers from these countries, so I decided to try in Slovakia.
Ahoj, ja sa volam Wara, ja som z Bolivia a ja mam 23 rokov. My EVS project is for 8 months, i am here already 6, my time is running so fast! This time was more than amazing, I met great people with who i learned so many things.
I didn´t expect something like what i am living now, i like my activities here with kids and teenagers, is great for me know another people, culture and mentality, that makes me open my mind, explore and enjoy our differences.
Hello everyone, My name is Huyen. I’m 22 years old. I’m from Hanoi, Vietnam. I have worked at Center for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS). When I was a student, I was also the head of Human Resources of Sustainable Development Club (SDC). Over last three years, I has experienced in running social projects that helped improve the lives of less fortunate children and adults in Vietnam.
Ahoj! My name is Manon, i’m French, and i’m volunteer to come in Slovakia in Čadca to teach english and french to children. I choose this project because i like KERIC’s methodology, to teach, like not formal couses but have fun and make some games, to make children study with fun and pleasure.
I also want to improve my English and learn slovak by the way.
Ahoj! Ja sa volám Maria, som z Talianska zo Sirakúz... I'm 27 years old and I am a new volunteer in Keric. I'm going to stay in Cadca for 11 months to teach English and Italian language. I choose this project because I'm interest in teaching and also because it is a great opportunity to meet new people from all over the world, know other cultures, improve my English and maybe try to learn Slovak language :)
I'm sure that this will be an amazing experience.
