Nowadays, mental health is becoming a more important topic than ever, especially among young people. The MIND project was set up in response to findings that young people are increasingly likely to develop mental disorders and their emotional well-being is at risk. The main aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities of professionals in the field of vocational education and to promote the mental health of students, especially in the context of international mobility. You can read more about the MIND project on our website.
What does the latest study we have carried out in collaboration with the consortium bring?
One of the key initiatives of the MIND project is to produce a detailed study on the state of mental health amongst vocational students and professionals in the field. The study analyses what factors most affect young people's mental wellbeing, what barriers prevent them from accessing support and what steps need to be taken to improve their situation. The study was carried out in France, Spain, Slovakia, Estonia and Macedonia.
Key findings:
✔️ Up to 48% of students experienced symptoms of poor mental health in the last month.
✔️ More than 70% of respondents thought they had a good understanding of mental health, but tests showed that only 38% answered expert questions correctly.
✔️ The stigma of mental health is still very much present in the vocational sector , preventing open discussion and help-seeking.
✔️ Students involved in international mobility projects often face language barriers, separation from family and culture shock, which can worsen their mental health.
Who is the study for?
📌 For vocational students - if you want to better understand the impact of mental health on your education and learn how to protect it.
📌 For vocational Education Professionals - if you work with students and want to gain the tools to support their mental wellbeing more effectively.
📌 To anyone interested in mental health issues - if you want to know what the European Union is doing and how you can help improve the situation in your neighbourhood.
