KOSIMBO
PROGRAMME ACHIVEMENTS

Primary Health Care
We have provided health services to the community (Kosimbo Community Clinic 2005). The facilities have offered Voluntary Counseling and testing to over 4,000 people, basic health care and laboratories has benefited over 10,000 people.

Orphan and Vulnerable Children Sponsorship
Kosimbo Child sponsorship project- Through donation from well wishers, the group has managed to support over 30 students through secondary school fees books and uniforms while over 70 pupils in primary get support through provision of Uniform.

Kosimbo widows Adult Basic Education Center
Kosimbo widows’ basic adult education center was started in 2008 due to high level illiteracy amongst widows and general community, with the help of Ministry of Education with grants worth Kshs 250,000; we have upgraded the center to educate over 60 widows and community members .


Educational Infrastructure Support:
Kosimbo has mobilized over 200 bags of cement from Bamburi Portland Cement to support construction of science laboratory for Mayieka secondary school where most Kosimbo OVC sponsored student are learning. We are currently working with Kenya Library services to establish Community library at Kirindo village.
Community Relief support
Kosimbo has routinely mobilized over 200 blankets and mosquito nets and donated to very old grandmothers who are Care givers and members of the community.

Home based Care
Through support from Government of Kenya, Kosimbo has received Kshs 350,000 from Naitional Aids Control Council to provide Home based care to over 300 care givers within Kirindo village.

Sustainable Agriculture
Kosimbo has helped the widows to start chili, mangoes and butternut projects in their five farms.

Water and Sanitation
Kirindo village is located within the lake shore of Kosimbo beach, our most reliable source of both drinking and domes water is from the Lake and the polluted River Awach. .Through partnership with Kenya water for health organization, we have sinked community borehole for clean drinking water.

Income Generating Activities
Kosimbo has group income generating activities which includes Dairy goats, cereals shop, and group farms. This was strengthened through training of members in Micro-finance and was awarded loan of kshs 50,000/= through the ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development  to develop the business. The group also has tailoring department for vocational training for members.

CADIF
Type of Activity:
 Youth Behavior change communication Awareness and Advocacy
Cadif work with the volunteer to reach out to  youth with  20 groups and target them for prevention strategies on Behavior change communication and sexual Abstinence on HIV/AIDS .The program have advocacy component, and counseling to youth at risk.
 Orphan and Children support program
Orphans and vulnerable children in the Slum area of Nyalenda more susceptible and vulnerable to the spread of HIV/AIDS. Cadif will work with EVS volunteers to provide sustainable approach through empowering the parent, guardian or caretakers to be economically empowered to take care of the orphans when our support is not forthcoming. We train and mentor them on entrepreneurship and help hem to startup. . The Volunteers are also encouraged to initiate their own work by organizing arts and crafts, music, dance, games, sports activities, and day trips for the children.
Teaching Program
We have opportunities for volunteers to assist with teaching at preschool, primary, and secondary levels. At primary and secondary levels, volunteer teachers can teach core subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, social sciences, and can initiate extra-curricular activities. Volunteer preschool teachers will teach Basic English skills and carry out basic childcare duties. This role is suitable for a caring, motivated, and self-directed person. A teaching qualification is not required (except for secondary teaching)
 Assist the school social worker in various activities
- organizing social events and activities for the students.
- Teachers aid at classes at school in local school.
- assist the student enterprises, in particular those that are involved with youth activities
- Marketing "Student live show" projects for the students at the school.

Other Duties Optional will be
-    Blog, facebook, and web updating and marketing of volunteer work of all sorts.
- be an assistant in various types of social meeting places eg. Post test clubs, children gathering, multicultural groups, outdoor activity groups, gatherings for old people and more.
- help organizing Holiday language camp for teaching children foreign language 
-    - be an assistant in activities in other volunteer organizations in the municipality.
- work at public institutions such as community centre and health  facilities

•    the role and tasks of the volunteer(s)
 
1 The volunteer will help the activity and sesion coordinators to lead the session, improve the result quality by asisting with nonformal tools and help that will consist in direct work with social services beneficiary, prepare the sessions and implementing the sessions;
2. To participate to all pedagogical activities like project presentation, cultural sessions, language training in order to improve the cooperation with hosting organization and the beneficiarry;
3. To be motivated and actively by proposing new ideas, being creative and inovative for all sessions the volunteer participating to;
4. To be al volunteering activist for local volunteering and EVS volunteering;
5. To initiatet original blog page in the project web page for own presentation and project participation;
6. To follow the group contract initiated by EVS volunteers and agreed to the preparation sessions.
7. Volunteers working with orphans will help the children build self reliance and facilitate the increase of self confidence to face the future. Skills are developed through organized games, drawing classes, singing lessons, and even painting sessions. In this project, volunteers can organize any creative extracurricular activities the children may enjoy and benefit from.
8. Volunteer working with children will be a mentor by becoming a big brother or sister to kids in a community center. You will work alongside local staff to help with classroom teaching and homework help, childcare, and the daily operational running of the center. Volunteers are also encouraged to initiate their own work by organizing arts and crafts, music, dance, games, sports activities, and day trips for the children.

9. Volunteers have the opportunity to work in a community HIV/AIDS organizations, we also run Behavior change project, HIV/AIDS Capacity building, Awareness and advocacy to assist with homecare visits to HIV positive people, and educate and counsel community and school groups and individuals. This role is suitable for a caring, motivated, and self-directed person. Medical training is not necessary for all aspects of the program, but a background in HIV/AIDS and basic health care is required.  Sample Image JAMAJKA

MONEAGUE COLLEGE – ŠTUDENTSKÝ KLUB - http://www.moneaguecollege.edu.jm/

The volunteer will compliment the Environmental Department which straddle dfferent course components. The person will answer to a Supervisor who answers directly to the Executive Director or Principal of the institution. The volunteer will keep  records of the integrated projects and liaise with at least three lecturers in monitoring course works in practical areas for Course work grade purposes. Also will supervie or assist with supervising the Environmental Club meetings and Project day’s activities.
Volunteer will be off on public Holidays and for some of the academic holidays in December, March and summer.
Volunteer will be exposed to learning Education for Sustainable Development and project implementation along with community outreach initiatives. Volunteer in assisting with environmental researches, will garner particular skills for academic advancement and skills training.
The standard agenda will include a general meeting of clubites on Mondays at midday for an hour, on Thursday afternoons projects are supervised and the rest of the week will be involved with chicken rearing and goat rearing project as well as discarded paper collection for shredding, monitoring of manure decomposition and maintiaing records for fruit tree  crops and course work monitoring.
In addition, students from nearby Primary School will do community service at he college and they will be supervised by the volunteer.

ALL ISLAND BEE FARMERS ASSOCIATION – VČELIA FARMA

The volunteer will act in a Secretarial role and act as community outreach officer operating from the association’s office and other Ministry of Agriculture offices. The person will answer to a Supervisor, most likely the Secretary of the association; who answers directly to the President of the All Island Beefarmers Association. The volunteer will keep  records of the meetings held by the Executive or file the Minutes after a Recording Secretary document it, will duplicate and distribute them in conjunction with travelling officers associated with the organization. Volunteer will also liaise with Project coordinators to garner information and assist with information dissemination through the provided channels of the association.

Volunteer will be off on public Holidays, except days used for promotion of Agricultural ventures when the Association is expected to mount exhibits for display purposes. Travelling Officers will assist in transporting Volunteer who may work alongside local volunteers called Youth Service Workers.Please see website: http://www.nysjamaica.org/

Volunteer will be exposed to learning production of honey and wax, health value of beekeeping products, marketing of organic products ie nationally and internationally and community relation skills. Education for Sustainable Development and project implementation will be infused as well. Volunteer will work with some schools with beekeeping project as well.

The standard agenda will include a general meetings and executive meetings, the latter every two months, office days definitely on Fridays and special projects throughout the month to be timetabled depending on honey season which runs  for the most part between December and June.

 

URUGUAY

CEDAM - práca v školskej družine – aktivity s deťmi (vrátane detí s poruchami učenia)

CEDAM (Centro Especializado Diurno de Atencion al Menor) is the non governmental, non profit organization. Functions like the education center for the children with emotional and behaviour problems, dyslexia, dysortografia, dyscalculia and many more. The personnel of the school includes specialists for the Psychology, Fonoaudiology, Psychomotorology, Music-therapy and teachers of handicrafts and computers. CEDAM is cooperating with a nursery CAIF – Los Pitufos which has experiences with volunteers mainly from Montevideo´s universities. The CAIF nursery is a state institution taking care of children aged 1 to 4. The institution offers its services for no fee, and parents can bring their children in for four to eight hours every day. The CAIF Los Pitufos nursery is situated in an area with a high concentration of low-income families.
The main task of each volunteer working in CEDAM, will be to support the professional personnel of the education centre. A volunteer can decide if he wants to help in the morning or in the afternoon classes. He can participate in the classes of Art, Mathematics, Spanish, Natural Science and Dance. The age range of the pupils is very wide from six to twenty-five years. They are divided into the four groups according to their abilities. Each group has up to 12 kids. The working week of each volunteer consists of five working days of 5 hours/day.
 In CAIF, the volunteers help teachers and educators with all their activities such as basic care of children, their psycho-motoric skills, help children to learn basic habits such as eating, dressing, or regular sleeping. Moreover, volunteers play with children, come up with new games, and teach children songs. Besides these activities, volunteers spread their culture not only among kids, but also among their colleagues. This way, people learn about new cultures and this learning process can help to avoid possible prejudices against Europeans.

ASPAT - Brazília, LAVRAS, štát Minais Gerais, 5 hodín od Sao Paolo

Dobrovoľníci pracujú v centre pre deti z verejných škôl s talentom. V praxi to znamená, že prqacujú v podobnej inštitúcii ako sú naše centrá voľného času, len s hlbším vzdelávacím obsahom. Dobrovoľník zvyčajne vedie kurzy jazykov a krúžky podľa svojich osobných záujmov. Hostiteľské miesto môže hosťovať 5 dobrovoľníkov v jednom čase, ale z rôznych európskych krajín. Hostiteľská organizácia je skúsená a spolupráca medzi KERICom a ASPAT trvá už od roku 2005
